Tennis lesson FAQ
Answers to the questions Fawz hears most from new players and parents.
Do I need any tennis experience to start?
No. Many of Fawz's students start from zero. First lessons cover grip, ready position, footwork and the basic forehand, backhand and serve, plus scoring and court etiquette, at a pace that suits you.
How fast will a beginner improve?
Most beginners feel a clear difference after one or two lessons. With one lesson a week and some practice in between, expect steady rallies and a more reliable serve within a few weeks.
What happens in a typical lesson?
Fawz assesses where your game is, then builds the hour around it: warm-up and footwork, focused technique work on one or two strokes, live-ball drills with real-time feedback, and a few points or game situations so the change holds up under pressure.
How many lessons should I book?
It depends on your goals. For steady progress, a weekly lesson works best, which is why the 4-week packs are the best value. Juniors training for tournaments often add a group clinic on top of a private lesson.
Do I need my own racket?
No. Fawz can bring a racket for your first lessons. Text him ahead so he can match the size, especially for younger kids.
What is the reschedule and cancellation policy?
Please give 24 hours' notice to reschedule or cancel. That gives Fawz time to offer the court slot to another player. Rescheduling is always preferred to cancelling, so you keep your momentum.
Where do lessons take place?
On Fawz's private home court, or at a public, club or HOA court near you across San Diego North County, including Carlsbad, Encinitas, Cardiff, Del Mar, Poway, Rancho Bernardo, Escondido and Mira Mesa. Home court sessions cost less. See areas served.
How much do tennis lessons cost?
Private lessons are $130 an hour on the home court and $150 at your court. Semi-private lessons are $90 to $100 per person, adult clinics $90 to $100 for 90 minutes, and youth clinics $40 to $50. 4-week packs bring the price down. See the full rate card.
Does Fawz coach kids and juniors?
Yes. Fawz has run junior programs since the 1990s, from mini-tennis camps to championship-winning junior teams and players competing at ITF events. He coaches kids from first lessons through tournament play.
Can lessons be in French or Arabic?
Yes. Fawz is fluent in English, French and Arabic, and has a working knowledge of Spanish and German.
What is the assessment call?
A short, free phone call before your first lesson. Fawz asks about your experience, goals, availability and preferred area, then recommends a lesson format and court. There is no obligation to book.
